Mates day out at pig and calf sales

THE pig and calf sale welcomed a mixed crowd yesterday, some in the market for stock and the rest in search of bargain wares.

Self-confessed ‘grumpy blokes’ Doug Scholfield and Darrell Smith were out at yesterday’s pig and calf sale for a catch up and bargain hunt.

The two men are huge advocates of Careflight Australia and wanted to send out a huge thank you to the charity for saving both their lives at different times.

“In October last year I had an aneurysm,” Mr Scholfield said.

“Careflight got me to the PA and they cut me open and saved my life.

“I should be dead.”

Mr Scholfield pointed from the middle of his chest to the bottom of his stomach to show where surgeons operated.

Mr Smith shared a similar story of having a heart attack and being airlifted out for lifesaving surgery.

“I wasn’t sure I would make it, but they got me the help I needed,” he said.

“We’re two old mechanics.

“It takes more than that to knock us down.”
