Matt Campbell joins champ in battle for Bathurst
TUESDAY TANTRUM with Gerard Walsh
IT is almost here we go again; more recognition for Warwick motorsport driver Matt Campbell.
I was going to write legend, but will keep that for down the track.
In November, he was chosen from the best nine young Porsche drivers from around the world for a sponsored drive in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Europe and the Americas.
Yesterday, he was named as co-driver for Shane van Gisbergen in the Enduro Cup series in the V8 Supercars.
It appears it was the New Zealand-born driver who decided he wanted the 21-year-old from Warwick to be his co-driver.
You can be the best driver in the world in the best car, but if you want to win the Bathurst 1000, it is a team effort.
While the main driver can do the majority of the driving, the reality is they can't win it by themselves.
And in his short motor racing career so far, Campbell has been used in ways that don't necessarily relate to being just the co-driver.
Talking to Matt, he is currently doing a lot of work in organising what will be a busy year.
If you are part of a team as he is in Europe and will be for the Red Bull Holden Racing team later this year, there are many commitments other than sitting in a car and going as fast and safely as possible from the start line.
