Matt's big moment
MOTOR RACING: Matt Campbell flies to Melbourne today to start his preparation for the biggest weekend of his motorsport career.
He has already driven the Nissan Motorsport Altima for three test days and three practice session and said he was really comfortable in the car.
"I have been getting as much sitting time in the car as possible,” he said.
Both Campbell, 21, and co-driver Todd Kelly will be in the Nissan Motorsport Altima and start the weekend with two practice sessions tomorrow and then compete in separate races on Saturday before the first of three enduro races in the 2016 V8 Supercars series, the Sandown 500 on Sunday.
The enduro race will be over 500km and both Kelly and Campbell must have time in the car during the race.
"We had been practising a lot of driver changes,” Campbell said.
"The aim is to change drivers as quickly as possible.”
He won't have too much spare time this weekend as he will start practice on Friday in the Porsche Carrera Cup series, which he leads.
"There are still three rounds to go so the championship fight is just starting,” he said.
Campbell said he had received a lot of help to get to his V8 debut.
"My grandfather Bill Campbell, Andy McElrea and many more have helped me,” he said.
Late next week, he will head to Germany to represent Australia in a Porsche Junior Driver Shootout on September 26-27.
