Matt finds his peace on the run
SOME people run for the fitness; others for the fresh air.
But celebrity chef Matt Golinksi does it to be to be at one with his thoughts.
The Coast man who suffered severe burns to 40% of his body in the blaze which claimed the lives of his wife and daughters on Boxing Day 2011, said running the half marathon was one of his recovery goals.
Despite having to undergo even more operations, Matt said he was looking forward to the future.
He ran the 10km at last year's Sunshine Coast Marathon festival and after tackling the 21km event this year, he intends to run the full marathon in 2014.
"I wanted to make two hours," he said.
"I got just under at one hour and 58 (minutes).
"This is my first half marathon since recovery.
"The last few kilometres it got hard...I started to hit a wall."
The former regular on Network 10's Ready Steady Cook said he had always loved to run but now it had more meaning.
"I have participated in the Noosa Half Marathon before," he said.
"It is the freedom of running (I love)."
Matt ran the 21km with his personal trainer Scott Drogemuller, from Caloundra Aquatic Lifestyle Centre.
Scott said the pair ran together because they enjoyed each other's company.
He was happy with Matt's time across the finish line and proud he had set his mind to training for it.
"It is good achievement for him," he said.
"I just wanted to make sure he got the best out of himself."
When he isn't training, Matt is back in the kitchen cooking up a storm.
"I have been doing lots of cooking demos," he said.
"Cooking is still my focus," Matt said.
"I am slowly getting back into it."
