Matts to take bat
CRICKET: Co-organiser Bob Bell is aiming to raise $2000 in the Pink Stumps Cricket Day at Assumption College tomorrow.
A game will be played between the staff and Year 12 students to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.
The staff team will be captained by Sarah Apps and Anna Hardy, a sportswoman better known as a classy swimmer in her school years.
Bell plays for the staff and said in the past two years, the annual game had raised a total of $3130. “We are aiming to take the total raised over the three years to $5000 this year,” he said.
The students team will comprise Year 12 students with Stewart Henderson a tip for the leadership role.
Tom Morris is one of the best club cricketers in Warwick and will be the umpire.
Henry Gartery is making a name for himself as a spinner in Warwick cricket but according to Bell, the green pitch hasn’t been prepared with spinners in mind.
“The wicket could suit student Nick Van Der Poel but the two Matts from staff – Matt Grew and Matt Bruton – will bat with plenty of confidence for our team.”
Darling Downs Panthers netballer Sarah Ogden is in the students team, along with many fellow netballers, including Julia Murphy and Larissa Millard.
The game is being sponsored by Bell’s Butchery in Warwick.
