Mayor: Gold Coast not 'anti-Islamic' for rejecting mosque
Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate says he has no fears the tourist strip will be viewed as "anti-Islamic", after the council on Tuesday rejected an application to build the city's third mosque at Currumbin Waters.
"Not at all," Cr Tate said.
"We have the most Middle East visitors in all of Australia and my frequent visits to the Middle East are well known."

The Gold Coast mayor said he respected all religions and all visitors to the city.
However Cr Tate said town planning objections had concerned councillors enough to deny the mosque application.
