Mayor issues running challenge for 2017 run at Maryvale

MAYOR Tracy Dobie has challenged district residents to enter next year's Andy Wilson Memorial Run at Maryvale and beat her.

"I will give a prize to everyone who beats me," she said.

Cr Dobie and Jaiden Fidge won the memorial trophies for winning the 5km run yesterday.

"I want to see people competing. Get out there and better your health," she said.

"The Cancer Council Queensland is a good cause but we need more competitors.

"It is a beautiful 5km run through the countryside at Maryvale, the course is a little challenging with a long dragging hill in the middle."

Cr Dobie completed the 5km in 24 minutes, 37 seconds, six minutes behind her best time in an era when she was the first woman home in a Sydney Marathon.

Currently, she runs 35km a week.

The challenge is not just for women or runners over a certain age, Cr Dobie will come up with a prize for everyone who beats her at Maryvale next year.

There were 50 runners and walkers in the field yesterday with the Pentath-run committee helping out the Warwick branch of Cancer Council Queensland with the organisation. Pat Sinnott was first home in the 12km run from Ross Leggatt and Neil Burtenshaw.
