Mayor returns to duty after chest-pain scare
A BLOCKAGE in a major artery has been fixed, enabling Southern Downs Mayor Peter Blundell to return to work.
Cr Blundell was admitted to Stanthorpe Hospital and then transferred to the Mater Private Hospital in December after suffering debilitating chest pains.
He was found to have a blockage in an artery; however an angioplasty rectified the problem.
"I'm feeling well rested and ready to tackle 2014 with enthusiasm," he said.
"I'm looking forward to renewing my usual community contact.
"I'm excited to get back up-to-date with all the issues and projects that arose over the Christmas and new year period."
Cr Blundell will be back just in time for Australia Day celebrations and the first council meeting of the year next Wednesday.
Deputy Mayor Ross Bartley took on the mayor's position while he was recovering from surgery.
"It was certainly a very interesting time for me," Cr Bartley said.
"I was still doing my role as deputy, along with the mayor's and still running my farm.
"You are on the front line as mayor and, if you are contactable, people will definitely approach you."
