Medal success for Southern Downs group at states

ATHLETICS: Zac Caterson headed the Warwick State High School medal-winning performances at the Queensland 13-19 years athletics championships in Brisbane.

Southern Downs students won seven medals and five recorded fourths to just miss medals

There were other students from many schools in the area who made finals or the top-10 and many personal bests among the large Southern Downs contingent in the Darling Downs team.

Caterson won gold in 14 years javelin and silver in discus and shot put.

His discus was a personal best throw of 54.95m, by more than 2m.

Last year, Caterson won a gold and two silvers.

Brendan Hoffman (WSHS) won silver in 15 years shot put and was fourth in discus this year.

Shane Lamb won silver in 400m multi class and Aaron Payne was fourth in 200m.

Justyn Rogers (WSHS) won a bronze medal in 16 years triple jump and bronze with the Darling Downs team in the relay and fourth in long jump.

The Scots PGC College student Will Gilmore was third in discus.

Zac Wall and Becky Menand (both WSHS) were both fourth in javelin and Lily Maw fourth in discus.

A state team will compete in the nationals later this year with ages covering two years.
