Medieval re-enactors recruit history buffs
THE Canton of Stegby put on medieval re-enactments on Saturday in Leslie Park and are delighted some new members plan to join.
There were 100 lookers as the members of the Warwick group and some visitors did the re-enactments from England through Europe and the Middle East to Japan on or before the 16th century.
Matt and Rebecca Dolton travelled from Brisbane to be Dimitrii Borodinskii and Josseline De Le Cour on the day and have already been to Warwick to join the locals three times this year.
For Matt, being involved in the Canton of Stegby is because "I never grew up".
"I still like to play knights and dress up," he said.
"All our costumes are hand made and all armours are made by hand. People came come in a T-shirt and jeans and have a go."
Dress for re-enactments can range from simple tunics to fully-embroided museum pieces.
Each group has a hospitaller, a role for the person who assists any prospective new members and helps them with clothing.
The seneschal (leader) of the Warwick group is Chris Maddock and he said the demonstration at Leslie Park on Saturday was all about showing the public what the group did.
"We have definitely attracted some new members," he said.
"The group meets each Wednesday at 7.30pm at the Senior Citizens Hall for two hours and anyone keen to have a look is welcome.
