Meerkat madness set for school holidays at zoo
MEERKATS will be on display for the first time at the Darling Downs Zoo, starting these school holidays.
They will be the first zoo in the state to have a meerkat exhibit after receiving permission yesterday.
Zoo owner Steve Robinson said it was a great achievement for the zoo.
"We've been working on this for 10 years. It's been a terribly long process," he said.
"There's probably nothing I can think of at the moment that could top that."
Along with the meerkats' arrival, the zoo will also be holding a number of talks and shows for majority of their animals, including two of the six tapirs in Australia.
Zoo visitors can look forward a family of white lions, with three six-month- old cubs.
"They are so full of energy and active. They're giving Mum and Dad are hard time," Mr Robinson said.
Another new addition to the zoo is two baby baboons that were born in August last year.
"They're still little tiny fellas."
The zoo also received official accreditation yesterday, meaning it is holding a much higher standard than legislation requires.
During the school holidays, the zoo will have a daily $2.50 sausage sizzle from noon.
