Meeting stirs emotion for future of Jumpers and Jazz

IF ONE thing was made clear at last night's community meeting for Jumpers and Jazz, it's that Warwick won't let its iconic festival fall.

More than a hundred people include business owners and members of community groups gathered to discuss the festival's future.

While there was plenty of emotion, tension and frustration throughout the night, there was no denying everyone had the one common goal - to ensure a successful future for Jumpers and Jazz.

Destination Southern Downs Implementation Manager Tracy Dobie wouldn't guarantee the festival would be as successful - but she didn't need to, the community made it clear they would.

So what came out of the meeting?

In the past Jumpers and Jazz was primarily organised by a small group of people.

Now, each of the 23 Jumpers and Jazz events will have a volunteer co-ordinator from the community.

That co-ordinator will report to a J&J Management committee consisting of Warwick Art Gallery director Karina Devine, Rob Hamilton from Destination Southern Downs, a representative from the council and two community representatives.
