Melbourne Cup winning trainer heading to Warwick
RACING: Melbourne Cup winning trainer Sheila Laxon has four starters for the Boxing Day Races at Allman Park.
Laxon trained Ethereal to win the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double in 2001.
She and partner/co-trainer John Symons moved from Victoria in train at the Sunshine Coast in April and will start Irish Constabulary in the Olsens Produce/Freestone Feedlot Magic Millions Country Cup Qualifier Open Handicap over 1200m on Monday.
"Irish Constabulary is a Magic Millions horse and we want to qualify him for the Country Cup on Magic Millions day at the Gold Coast,” she said.
The eight-year-old gelding has won four of his past 10 starts, including a win on Friday night at the Sunshine Coast.”
She isn't worried about the age of the horse.
"He had five years off racing so will be able to race as long as they will let him,” she said.
Symons said he was happy with the form of Irish Constabulary.
"We have accepted for four horses for Boxing Day and are definitely coming on Monday,” he said.
Top Sydney trainer Bjorn Baker has nominated Credit Card Miss for the Country Cup.
There are 108 nominations for the meeting, acceptances will be released later today.
