Vote paves the way for lease deal

A LEASE agreement over the Warwick Golf Club clubhouse with the Condamine Sports Club has been finalised at the annual general meeting of the golf club last week.

The deal involves the Condy leasing the clubhouse and its facilities for three years from early next year, with Warwick Golf Club president Don Stewart yesterday emphasising the deal is a business agreement and "not a takeover of any kind".

Mr Stewart said Warwick Golf Club members had voted "overwhelmingly in favour" of the lease arrangement at last week's AGM.

"Members will continue to have full rights and privileges and the Warwick Golf Club management committee will remain responsible for maintenance of the course and the playing of golf," Mr Stewart said.

"The Condy, having the betterment of local sporting clubs as its charter, has chosen to use its expertise to take full advantage of the wonderful potential that the golf club facilities offer.

"They will update some of these facilities over time to increase the attractiveness of the entertainment, bar, kitchen and function room."

Mr Stewart said the Condamine Sports Club would maintain the excellent reputation of the restaurant as created by Frankie Lo Giudice, who he said had chosen not to take up employment with the new clubhouse lessee.

"The golf club is extremely grateful for the service, sponsorship and co-operation it has received from this talented chef," Mr Stewart said.

"While Frankies On The Green will continue to operate until around the time of commencement of the new three-year lease - probably in early 2012 - the golf club wishes him and his new wife, Casie, all the best for their future.

"The Condamine Sports Club will continue to cater at the golf club for functions, and any that have already been booked will receive the same service that they would have expected for their special day.

"However, it is understood that some people may wish to stay with Frankie.

"We ask them to please contact Condamine Sports Club manager Ian Skillen for any clarification that may be required, or for any future bookings after January next year."

Mr Stewart said the Warwick Golf Club and the Condamine Sports Club both looked forward to the new clubhouse venture "with interest and excitement".

Ian Skillen can be contacted at the Condamine Sports Club in Warwick on 4661 1911.
