Merc driver breaks rules

A MAN driving a Mercedes Benz was allegedly clocked 55kmh over the speed limit, blew four times the legal alcohol limit while also on a disqualified licence.

Police intercepted the 32-year-old Seven Hills man yesterday on the Cunningham Highway at Willowvale and will allege he was travelling in a 100kmh zone at 155kmh and recorded a breath alcohol reading of 0.201%.

The car was seized for 48 hours and the driver was charged with exceeding the speed limit, driving while under the influence of alcohol and disqualified driving.

He is due to appear in court on January 2, 2012.

Warwick Police Senior Sergeant Stewart Day said yesterday's incident reiterated police would be highly visible on our roads over the holiday period.

"We are committed to reducing the road toll before any serious incidents occur, and urge everyone to drive sensibly," Snr Sgt Day said.

Senior Sergeant Day said the risks people were willing to take when driving was unbelievable.

"We are constantly amazed at people driving more than four times over the legal limit, speeding and on a disqualified licence," he said.

"Luckily proactive police controlled (the situation) before he could have harmed himself or anyone else."
