MIRACLE CITY: Why Toowoomba dubbed standout performer
TOOWOOMBA is being called the miracle city in regional Queensland.
A unique set of circumstances has positioned Toowoomba as one of the standout performers among regional cities, The Courier Mail reports.
According to former Groom MP Ian Macfarlane, recently appointed as chief executive officer of Queensland Resources Council, the coal seam gas industry helped drive a $1 billion boom in health, education, government services, agriculture and manufacturing.
He cited Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport as important in driving tourism and agricultural exports.
"So it's been a coincidence of good fortune, hard work behind the scenes and an extra stroke of luck with the airport," Mr Macfarlane said.
He said the $1.6 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing road would make ''an enormous difference'' to the growth of industry and logistics.
