Missing Qld man survived on mussels and fruit for 32 days

A MISSING Queensland man has been found alive after surviving in remote bushland on wild fruit and freshwater mussels for more than a month.

Stephen Currie spent 32 days in the north Queensland bush, 10 kilometres outside the mining town of Chillagoe west of Cairns, amid 40 degree temperatures.

''We've certainly had some quite warm weather in the build up to monsoonal season. There have been some very warm days out near Chillagoe in the time that Stephen was missing,'' Senior Constable Mark Elliot from Mareeba station said.

''It is a definite story of survival.

''We've seen a few of these in the last few years and I guess to a lot of police who are involved in these searches we always try to maintain that the person will be found. In this case it was proved correct again, eventually.''
