Mixed results for Matt Campbell at Sandown

MOTORSPORT: Matt Campbell has extended his lead in the Porsche Carrera Cup after the first two races at Sandown.

For the first time, Campbell is competing in V8 and Carrera Cup rounds on the same weekend.

Campbell was on pole position and made it five wins from the past five in race 2 on Saturday.

The Warwick driver said to Porsche officials straigth after his win that in race two he jumped straight from the Supercar into the Carrera Cup car and felt comfortable straight away.

"I feel pretty good jumping between the two, that's for sure. Today was fantastic but we don't know what the weather is going to do tomorrow so we'll have to wait and see. We've had some great pace so hopefully I can continue that going into tomorrow," the Porsche media statement read.

In the V8 Supercars, Campbell was co-driver for Todd Kelly in Nissan Motorsport and the pair had some car troubles at Sandown.

On Saturday, Campbell was 23rd in co-driver qualifying, 32 seconds behind the leader.

The two will combine in the Sandown 500 over 500km today and will be aiming for the highest possible finish despite coming from near the back of the grid.

In three weeks time, Campbell will do it all again at Bathurst in his cup car and in the Bathurst 1000 with Kelly.

His final Carrera Cup race for the weekend is early this afternoon as a forerunner to the Sandown 500.
