Mixed teams in polocrosse action

POLOCROSSE: A mixed competition will be one of the features of the Cunningham Polocrosse Club carnival this weekend at the Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve.

The Cunningham club has traditionally been strong in mixed polocrosse and will field two mixed teams this weekend.

"Our two teams will be close in standard and have the ability to feature in the finals," club publicity officer Grant Sakrewski said.

"The club is hoping between 40 and 50 teams will nominate."

The Cunningham club has two carnivals booked in this year with the second carnival on August 16-17 in between carnivals at Killarney, Cunningham and Warwick on successive weekends.

The host club has four players in Queensland teams for the nationals.

Dougall Strahley and Anthony O'Leary are in the junior boys side with the Waugh sisters, Ella and Ryle, both in state teams after featuring in a titanic under-24 final against New South Wales two years ago at Morgan Park.

The nationals are at Fred's Pass, Darwin, on July 7-13.

This weekend's carnival will start at 8.30am Saturday with dinner and entertainment at night at the Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve.

Play will resume at 8am Sunday with finals starting in the middle of the day. Players, officials and fans are welcome to the night function and weekend play.
