MMA fight kickstarts popularity in Warwick

Fighters from across Queensland will roll into Warwick this weekend for Grow Strong Fight Night 2.

The mixed martial arts event will feature 12 cage fights, and one "celebrity" match.

Promoter Michael McDaniel said the event would be the ideal night out for Rose City residents, even to those who weren't familiar with the sport.

"Every match is different, even I don't know what to expect," he said.

"These guys have been training for weeks on weeks, people should be surprised at what an amazing event it is.

"Across the board, I've gotten people saying 'wow I didn't expect it', and they wish it was back on next week."

Apart from skilled fighting, Mr McDaniel also said the night was a great opportunity for residents to take their mind off their worries.

"There's a big drought going on, and you need de-stress," he said.

"[Grow Strong Fight Night ] creates inspiration, people come away feeling elated."

Mr McDaniel, who lived in Warwick until 2014, couldn't wait to see a growing fanbase for MMA in town.

"The first event got over 350 people. For a first event that's amazing," he said.

"It's going to grow immensely."

The night runs from 5-11PM at WIRAC.

Tickets are $50 for general admission or $35 for general standing.
