Mobile cinema a benefit to region

A MOBILE cinema package, purchased by the Southern Downs Regional Council in 2010, has been used a total of seven times.

Director of Community Services Tony Minuti said the cinema screen, which cost $15,000 plus GST, had since been hired out to the Granite Belt Support Services.

"The hire agreement also provides that council has the right to hire the equipment to other organisations," he said.

"The cinema equipment actually hired out to Granite Belt Support Services is the smart box which includes the DVD player, sound system, projector and speakers.

"The actual mobile screen is not required by Granite Belt Support Services.

"This screen is stored at the council offices and is available for hire by organisations together with the smart box.

"Council has agreed to hire the equipment to Granite Belt Support Services for the 2012/2013 financial year on the understanding that the equipment will still be available for hire by other community groups."

Mr Minuti said the income from the equipment was minimal but it was serving as a benefit to the community.
