"The fire started in one fryer and jumped into the other," Mr Watson said.

However, he said restaurant staff put it out with a fire extinguisher and fire blanket before fire trucks arrived.

"They did a good job."

Mr Watson said building inspections along the busy Mooloolaba Esplanade strip were a regular occurrence.

"Their training and our fire maintenance inspection reports and fire prevention has paid off."

Only minor damage was reported and no one was injured.

Fire crews and paramedics were called to the Landmark Resort building on Mooloolaba Esplanade at 11.30am after they received a call for a fire.

A QFES spokesman has said at approximately 11.40am as crews were arriving they were then called again with reports that the fire had been contained and put out with a fire extinguisher.

"They called back and said they'd put the fire out with an extinguisher and all persons had been evacuated," he said.

"QFES did a check and made sure the scene was safe before leaving the scene."

A QAS spokeswoman said it was believed the fire had been lit by an electrical appliance.
