More Cairns flights linked to confirmed virus cases

HEALTH authorities have begun contact tracing for several new flights which have arrived in Cairns carrying passengers confirmed with coronavirus.

There are six Cairns flights - including an Emirates codeshare - currently being traced, which have come from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

"Queensland Health is continuing contact tracing of flights with a confirmed case of COVID- 9 which arrived in Queensland up until midnight Wednesday, 25 March," Queensland Health has advised.

"This means if you sat in the same row, the two rows in front or the two rows behind a confirmed case, you are deemed a 'close contact' and are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of arrival.

"The risk of contracting COVID-19 for all other passengers on flights with a confirmed case of COVID-19 is considered low, and you are advised to monitor your health for 14 days.

"If you become unwell, you should contact your doctor or health provider immediately.

All travellers who arrived from interstate from midnight March 25 onwards are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.

This applies to all travellers, even if you have no symptoms, Queensland Health says.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday announced law enforcement and justice staff would bolster the efforts of Queensland Health and police to contact trace and check in on those at home in self-quarantine and self isolation.

Queensland Health has also issued a public health alert for the Far North after three people confirmed to have coronavirus attended a wrestling event at Edmonton PCYC on March 14.

The Far North's official tally currently sits at 24, with cases across the region including Cairns, the Tablelands, Kuranda, and Mossman.

Queensland's overall tally has jumped by 40 overnight to reach 781.
