Miss Warwick Showgirl does the town proud
THE Southern Downs show season may have come to an end, but Miss Warwick Showgirl Amy Bradfield was out to do her town proud at the Toowoomba Royal Show.
Miss Bradfield braved the judges on Saturday and just missed out on the regional title, which went to Miss Dalby Showgirl Annie Fulton.
"I wasn't successful, but I had a fantastic time," she said.
"I was a little disappointed, but Annie's a great girl who I get along with and wish her well going to Ekka for the state showgirl title.
"I think the best thing about it was meeting different girls from all over our region, we still have that common interest to serve our show societies, make them better and involve more youth in the show movement in Queensland."
Miss Bradfield said it was great to meet so many like-minded young women.
Thanks to a long-time family involvement at the Toowoomba Royal, she said she felt comfortable being interviewed in the contest by family friend Angus Lane.
"I've known Angus since I was little so I felt comfortable up on stage with him," Miss Bradfield said.
"It was just a fantastic experience and as soon as we arrived on Friday we were all mates straight away.
"That's really one of best things about the quest is making connections with like-minded girls."
"That's the end of the road for me with showgirl competing, but I will continue my role as Miss Warwick Showgirl through the year and especially in the lead up to the next show," she said.
"I would strongly encourage anyone who has ever thought about it to do it because it opens so many doors, and you can just be yourself and let your passion for your show come through.
"You get to meet incredible people through this experience just from wearing a sash and representing your town."
Even without a showgirl win, Miss Bradfield stepped away with some showjumping ribbons.
"I've competed at Toowoomba for years and I got to do my jumping stuff before the showgirl event so it was nice I didn't have to miss out," she said.
"I picked up a first place on my horse Silver Shade in the 1.15m class and a few other placings so I was very happy with how they performed."
