More hot days predicted for Stanthorpe

STANTHORPE should brace for heat, with temperatures expected over 30°C today and into the weekend.

Burea of Meteorology forecaster Chris Joseph said residents should prepare for heat and pack an umbrella.

"Today we're looking at a shower or two with a possible storm,” he said.

"(We're) looking at a top of 34°C for Stanthorpe, which is quite above the average for this time of the year.”

Mr Joseph warned people to take care due to high fire danger.

"With those hot temperature we're looking at a very high fire danger,” he said.

The high temperatures are expected to continue tomorrow and Saturday.

"Tomorrow is a very similar sort of situation, again 34°C with a storm tomorrow afternoon, becoming a bit wamer on Saturday,” he said.

Mr Joseph said Saturday would see moist, stormy conditions with a top of 35°C.

He said the region could expect some relief on Sunday, with temperatures expected to drop to 28°C.

"Sunday again the chance of storms but it's probably a much better chance on Sunday with the trough system approaching the area,” he said.

"(It will be) a bit cooler with the south easterly winds pushing through, about 28°C which should be a bit of a relief.”
