More players welcome to join one of Warwick's oldest clubs

THE Warwick Hockey Association was formed in 1929 and was the first established in a regional area of Queensland.

At one time, the sheep were chased off the fields so hockey could start on a weekend.

Now senior mixed hockey is played on a Tuesday night, ladies hockey each Wednesday night and men's hockey on a Thursday night.

Juniors play on Saturday mornings with the majority of games on the water-based synthetic.

The four long-time clubs, Wyverns, Corinthians, Harlequins and Saints, field men's and ladies' teams while the juniors are split up into teams based on colours.

Players still welcome to join at any level.

Hockey resumes this week after the school holidays and prospective players welcome to Queens Park during the week or Saturday morning where they can indicate their interest in playing.

There is a definite need for more ladies in the Corinthians team and Harlequins are keen to attract some extra men for the season.

The Warwick Hockey Association will host the over 35s men's state championships on June 2-4 at Queens Park. Warwick will field a team.
