More than 200 ready to race at Warwick Dragway

DRAG RACING:

MORE than 200 drivers and riders are expect to compete in the second round of the JP Racing Dragfest this weekend at the Warwick Dragway.

There were 155 nominations early in the week and club vice-president John Loy said he expected well in excess of 200.

"We had 55 nominations on the day last year to take the total number to 240,” Mr Loy said.

There are competitors from Mackay, St George, Airlie Beach, Sydney and south to Tasmania.

"The driver from Tasmania comes each year with a car he races in super street,” he said.

"He travels around the drag racing circuit a bit and just goes in drag racing for a bit of fun.”

On Saturday, gates open at 8am, scrutineering is from 9am, qualifying from 10am-5pm and then the first round of racing.

There will be a car show on Saturday with judging from 10am-2pm. Free entry to the grounds for car and driver with prizes for best sedan, best commercial, best rod, best coupe and judges' choice.

In the past, there have been up to 30 cars in the show. Car show entry at the gate.
