Morons! Vandals do $250,000 damage to Dunethin Rock pontoon

VANDALS have forced part of the Dunethin Rock pontoon to collapse.

The pontoon, which cost about $250,000 five years ago, has been closed until repairs can be carried out.

The Sunshine Coast Council received a report that the pontoon was rocked until it collapsed.

Councillor Stephen Robinson said the pontoon's supports would need to be upgraded to prevent similar vandalism.

"The cost to repair this pontoon, which will require upgraded support mechanisms to prevent this destruction happening again, is on top of the maintenance program that was already programmed this year," he said.

"Lifting it back into place is not a quick and easy fix and will also add to the repair costs."

The vandalism is believed to have occurred on Wednesday last week.

Cr Robinson urged anyone with information on the vandalism to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

Access to Lake Dunethin, about halfway between Yandina and Bli Bli, is still available via the Dunethin boat ramp.
