Expectant father dies on his birthday in tragic crash

A BLACKSTONE man has died on his 34th birthday in a tragic Boxing Day fatality.

David 'Dave' Bailey, who was expecting his first child with new wife Sarah in July, died after losing control of his motorcycle on Mount Nebo Rd travelling towards Mount Glorious.

The soon-to-be father never came home to his beloved wife and died at the scene of the crash after his black and yellow Yamaha YZFR6 left the road about 12.45pm on Saturday.

A gofundme site has been set up to help Mr Bailey's new family.

In the first 11 hours the site had already raised $3535, with donations continuing to pour in.

The site shares Mr Bailey's story and paints him as a loving husband who was popular in the local biking community.

"He tragically died on the mountain, a road he had ridden many times before. He died doing what he loved to do," it states.

"Dave was loved and respected by many in the biking community, even those he had never met personally.

"This tragedy has touched people far and wide and his memory will never be forgotten.

"Ride in Peace Dave. You are forever in our hearts."

Tributes also flowed in on the QT's Facebook page yesterday, with many sharing their condolences.

"So sorry to hear this sad news," Valerie Mitchelson said.

"Going to miss you Dave," Blaise Botfield said.

"So sad my thoughts are with his family and friends RIP gone too soon mate," Bec Clarke said.

Forensic Crash Unit officers attended the scene and investigations into the crash are continuing.

The state's holiday season road toll stood at four yesterday.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
