Coast motorcyclist races after lifelong dream

LIVING life in the fast lane is a dream come true for Sunshine Coast motorcycle enthusiast John Eastwood, who competed in the Queensland Historic Road Race championships at Morgan Park Raceway at the weekend.

His passion for motorcycles began at the age of 16, however his motorcycle racing career did not start until the age of 40, after raising his family.

A carpenter by day, Mr Eastwood said it was never too late to follow your dreams as he suited up in his racing gear, ready to hit the track.

Competing in the historic category in period six on his Yamaha FZR400 the eager rider averages speeds of up to 120kmh, achieving 1min 32sec lap times.

"For me, racing is a great way to escape from the everyday and takes all the trouble of the world away," he said.

"You know how people say their cup is half full or half empty, well this fills my cup. There is nothing like being on two wheels."

Mr Eastwood has been competing at the Morgan Park facility since the track was first opened and can remember it as a tiny little go-kart track.

"I have witnessed many improvements to the track over the years," he said.

"I can honestly say it is now up there with the best tracks in Queensland."

It's not only the racing that draws Mr Eastwood to Warwick. His son attended SQIT here for 12 months in which time he said he visited regularly and enjoyed all the events and attractions the area offers.
