Movie review: Scary Movie 5

THIS is the sequel that no-one asked for. The kind that is handled with a swift eye-roll and a 'oh here we go again, do we have to?' sigh.

It's the first in the Scary Movie in seven years but time has not changed the formula; a flimsy storyline links together spoofs of Hollywood hits.

This time those in the firing line aren't necessarily obvious choices, from Mama, to the Paranormal series, Rise of the Planet of the Apes to Black Swan and Inception, not even the Oscar winners are safe.

This time it's Ashley Tisdale at the helm who channels Anna Faris' doe-eyed stupidity quite well.

In the seven years between films the franchise hasn't gotten any smarter and most of the jokes are not just dumb and crude but boringly predictable.

But amongst the cringe-worthy material there some actual funny moments and a small smattering of quite funny and completely random gags.

The cameos are the best bits, if you could call them that, from Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen in the pre-credits skit to Heather Lockear, Usher, Modern Families' Sarah Hyland, Snoop Dog and Mike Tyson.

While they provide the surprise 'star-power' it is also a sad reflection of where their careers have led.

Scary Movie is exactly what you would expect from the franchise. You have been warned.
