MP presents school leaders badges

ALLORA State School captains received their badges of office last week from Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott.

This year marks the 48th anniversary of the Allora State School Secondary Department and Mr Scott has presided over the investiture ceremony for the past several years.

He has an affinity for country schools, having started his education in a one-teacher school at Muckadilla, and always finds time to meet with the schools students when they are in Canberra on their annual school trip.

Mr Scott also presented house captains with their badges.

The houses, Deacon and Gwynne, are named after the school’s first principal and teacher.

Following the presentations, Mr Scott donated a new Australian flag to the new school captains.

Great show

THE Allora Show is over for another year, despite reports of its premature demise.

Numbers appeared to be down a bit, both for exhibitors and crowds, but a great time was still had by all in attendance.

Our two showgirls, Alana Frizzell and runner-up Sophie Denne, did a sterling job in the heat, as did all the members and the volunteers who did all those myriad of tasks necessary to make the show a success.

The society would especially like to thank Marg and Glen Hentschel, of Glenmar Fuels, for donating all the fuel needed to get the showgrounds ship shape and to keep them that way, and to Ian Watts, of Toowoomba Bikes and Bits, for donating quad bikes, which helped members to keep the show running on the weekend.

Another big thankyou to all those people who volunteered their time and skills to repair the grounds after the floods, and to those who helped to clean up after the show.

Look out for more show pictures in the coming weeks.
