"I'll f.... kill them": Man blows gasket over mowing row

A BACKYARD dispute wound up on the streets of Mount Morgan when Alexander Zane Graham got a council notice to cut his grass.

The Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard Graham couldn't contain his anger someone had "dobbed his yard", and yelled threats to his neighbours on January 3.

"With specific allegations he shouted, "If I find out who f*****g dobbed me in I'll f*****g kill them"," police prosecutor Clancy Fox said.

When police arrived they asked if there was a specific reason for his outburst.

"He told them he was annoyed because he received a letter from council stating he had to clean his yard, that he had received it because someone put in a complaint against him," Mr Fox said.

Duty lawyer Brian McGowran told the court once council officers arrived for an inspection, they said "are you serious, it's been raining?".

The court heard Graham had two pages of criminal history, including a similar public nuisance offence.

"Mr Graham has been at the same address for 11 year now, it's just around Christmas time or prior to that he was thinking 'the grass could probably do with a mow'," Mr McGowran said.

"He could have saved his energy of stressing it to his neighbours and mowed his lawn," Magistrate Mark Morrow interjected.

Mr McGowran explained it had rained for a week, which prevented him cutting the grass.

He said Graham "gets on well with his neighbours" and suspected it was "someone from a distance" who dobbed him in.

"Otherwise ranting about it in the front yard wasn't going to help it at all," he said.

Mr McGowran confirmed Graham had since mowed the lawn before Mr Morrow fined him $400 for public nuisance.

"It would have been cheaper to mow the lawn, conviction recorded," he said.
