Multiple businesses in the balance as bakery shuts up shop
OVENS are off and the smell of fresh bread has given way to cleaning products but the Bread Factory is not the only businesses that hangs in the balance at Rose City Shoppingworld.
A conglomerate of Warwick businesses owned by entrepreneur David Baek lie in limbo as the businessman undergoes "processes” that have required him to cease trading in the short term.
Rose City shoppers scratched their heads when the Bread Factory shut up shop on Friday, just three months after opening.
Shopping centre staff are currently dusting out the crumbs at the bakery's prominent location opposite Coles.
But other Rose City businesses are also said to be affected.
It is understood Mr Baek also owns the Mane St Barber and Cafe Roze which were due to open in the near future.
"There is an active lease on those premises, but they are currently on hold pending the outcome of his process,” centre manager Jason Gard said.
Mr Gard said all the owner's businesses, including those outside Warwick, had been affected.
"It is always disappointing but until the process he is undergoing is completed we don't know the status of his businesses,” Mr Gard said.
The Warwick Daily News attempted to contact Mr Baek, who was unavailable for comment.
Mr Gard said businesses in general had been good for the centre since renovations were completed in April.
"We have definitely seen an increase in traffic and our retailers are reporting some good growth,” he said.
