Music a top state of mind

AS YEAR 10 Allora student Anthony Bannister strums the final chord to his song, the small but animated crowd at the Town Hall erupts into a supportive cheer.

Yesterday, Mr Bannister was among about a dozen young performers to take to the stage as part of Headspace's annual busk off, held during Mental Health week.

Headspace's Sophia McLucas said the performers seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

"We've had to encourage a few into coming on stage because of nerves, but once they're up there, they do really well," she said.

"There has been dancing, singing, beat boxing and rapping.

"We hope it shows that no matter how old you are, or how you're feeling, this is one way of getting involved in the community and for some, a way of conquering fears."

Between sets, attendees enjoyed a free sausage sizzle.
