Music man finds a place in Warwick
MEET the man bringing a bit of music to Warwick’s streets.
Busker Sheish Money has been in the Rose City for the past 10 weeks to deliver his soulful, bluesy tunes to the Rose City.
After selling his home and business, the musician said he felt most liberated living on the road.
“My original plan was to head north when it got cold but I have a few musical things around here that are keeping me in town,” he said.
“I just move on because I don’t have any set places or schedule.
“It’s an interesting concept, freedom, I’ve never had it before.”
A life-long musician, Sheish Money said music was in his blood.
His sister Jane joins him singing and playing piano on his CD, Would Should Could.
“I learnt guitar from the nuns (at school) and they couldn’t cure me of music,” he said.
“I’m not the most talented one (in the family), I’m just the one who likes to do it more than everyone.
“I went to Brisbane when I was in my early 20s and I worked in studios as a sound engineer and was a roadie, and then I got into horticulture and ran a cleaning business for a while.
“Then I decided to make all my bills very small and see if I could work out a living without mortgage repayments and deadlines and commitments.”
The guitarist’s musical style, like his name, is not tied to a particular identity or genre.
“I had been playing with a Russian guy who (used a pseudonym) and he thought I should have a similar name, so I rearranged the letters in my name to make Sheish Money. I found I have money in my name but so far it’s only figurative,” he said.
“I try to avoid describing my musical style but I get a lot of blues. I love Bob Dylan and Neil Young and alt country, and I’ve played a few covers like Kasey Chambers but mainly I play originals because that’s why I got into this, to write songs.
“So far in Warwick I’ve had some great success, there is a good appreciation of music for a small town. I’ve sold some CDs and had nice messages from people saying they’re enjoying what I’m doing.
“You know, I grew up on the coast most of my life and there’s no beaches around here but there’s a lot of sky and I spend a lot of time looking at the stars and the eagles and hawks that fly around here.”
