Narrow basketball loss for Wildcats in reserves

BASKETBALL: Warwick went down 35-32 to Toowoomba team Running Rebels in Big Q reserve-grade basketball on Saturday afternoon at WIRAC.

Jesse Tumata and Eric McKavanagh were two of the stars of Warwick. Kevin Globio scored nine points to lead the way for Warwick with Tumata and McKavanagh scoring six each.

Jaydan Clark was the leading scorer at the end of the first quarter with five as Warwick led 11-5. Clark left the court early in the second quarter with an ankle injury reducing the Warwick squad to eight.

Warwick only fielded four players in the women's game on a day some of the players had other commitments.

The four Warwick players showed plenty of fight going down 52-37 to Running Rebels with Kayla Gabriel leading the way with 29.

Warwick had a bye in A grade and remains at two wins from two games. The next A-grade game is against USQ in Toowoomba on October 28 at Harristown State School Hall in Toowoomba.

In the A-grade game at Stanthorpe, USQ scored a 73-53 win against Stanthorpe.

Stanthorpe was within 10 points of one of the competition favourites for much of the game.

This weekend, Warwick will play USQ at 6pm Saturday at WIRAC in a reserve-grade game.
