National president upbeat about Magic Millions success
RACING: Gladfield-based Australian Thoroughbred Breeders Association president Basil Nolan rates this year's Magic Millions Yearling Sale as the best sale he has attended.
"All of the vendors were happy with the results,” Nolan said.
"Racing is in a pretty good space at the moment; prizemoney is up at race meetings in New South Wales and Victoria, and there was an increase announced for Queensland race meetings last week.”
Nolan has been at every Magic Millions Yearling Sale and at yearling sales for more than 50 years.
"There were 200 horses at the first Magic Millions Yearling Sale and there are 1108 this year,” he said.
"The percentage of horses sold is much higher than other years.”
Three horses from the Southern Downs area topped $400,000, including a colt from the Nolan's Raheen Stud that sold for $475,000.
The sale goes to Tuesday.
Nolan said many vendors had more yearlings to sell at the Magic Millions March Yearling Sale.
