National rowing champion a WDN/WCU star

TRIPLE state champion rower Ella Hudson has won a Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Junior Sports Star of the Month award for 2016.

Ella went to primary school at Wheatvale State School and St Mary's before heading to Somerville House in Year 8, where she first competed in rowing.

She started last year with gold in under-17 single and double scull events at the state club championships at Wyaralong Dam, and then won gold at the nationals in the double scull, silver in the single scull and bronze in quad scull.

Ella was in the winning Somerville House team in the Year 10 coxed quad scull in the Head of the River, which brought together teams from nine girls' schools.

In September at the state school championships at Bucca Weir, Bundaberg, she won gold in single, double and quad sculls.

While some athletes are having a break from training, Ella is in full training for the state championships in January. She will join her sister Harriet this week at a Sydney Rowing Club Camp, which will include rowing on Lake Jindabyne and high altitude training at Perisher.
