MOTORSERIES: Drivers will travel from as far as Adelaide for round three of the Australian Motorsport Racing Series at Morgan Park Raceway this weekend.

The first two rounds were at Winton (Benalla, Vic) and Mallala (Adelaide, SA) and the drivers will start arriving in Warwick for round three mid-Thursday.

Friday is a practice day with racing in eight classes from 8.30am Saturday and Sunday.

The two fastest classes in Australia will be contested this weekend.

The Formula 3 class has attracted 13 drivers who will reach speeds of 250km/h on the straights at Morgan Park Raceway.

Another fast class will be the GT-1 Australia class where the leading cars will reach speeds well above 220km/h at the weekend.

It will be head-to-head racing this weekend rather than sprint action

Series manager Wayne Williams said four classes of competition were being held at Morgan Park for the first time.

"The Formula 3, GT-1, Mazda RX8 and legend car classes will be contested at Morgan Park this weekend, so new track records will be set in the four classes,” he said.

There are 110 entries, including 15 from Victoria and 40 from New South Wales.

"One driver will travel from Adelaide and the rest will be from Queensland.”

The three classes with the most entries are the Queensland Production Sports Cars Association class, legends and GT-1 classes.

The GT-1 class has two one-hour enduros on Sunday and the production cars a one-hour race on Sunday. All other classes will be contested over four races.

The legend class is for miniature versions of a T Bucket Ford and 1956 Chev running on 1200cc motorcycle engines.

Admission is $10 for Saturday, $15 for Sunday or $20 for the weekend for adults. Children under 16 enter free.
