National squads at Rose Bowl for three day of polocrosse

RYLE Waugh will be the Southern Downs player in the games between open Australian squads in this weekend's Warwick Polocrosse Club IOR Petroleum Rose Bowl Carnival at Morgan Park.

Thirty-two of the best players in the nation will be in Warwick for the games between green and gold teams in men's and women's national squads.

Waugh and Farann Mathie (NSW) are backing up from last month's victorious Australian under-21 team which toured South Africa.

The first games between the national squads start at 6pm Friday and there is more club and national action from 8am Saturday and Sunday.

There will be night games Saturday to 9pm before the evening entertainment in the Polocrosse Clubhouse.

Suzette Thomas and younger sister Lizzie Lyster will travel from Western Australia to play on opposite women's teams.

Thomas won the best women's player award as Australia won the 2007 World Cup at Morgan Park in Warwick.

Warwick has two officials involved with the squads, Paul McGrath as a men's coach and Libby Wells as a women's team manager.

Eighty-two club teams are expected to play in the IOR Petroleum Rose Bowl carnival being played in conjunction with the national squad games.

Admission is $12.50 day/night, $8 per night, children under 16 free.
