National Tree Day is growing

TREEHENGE and Planet Ark are inviting Warwick residents to get outside and grow for Planet Ark's National Tree Day.

The local National Tree Day event is taking place Treehenge's Gladfield property at 10801 Cunningham Hwy this Sunday. Activities start from 10am.

"We're inviting all residents to get outside and connect with nature, do something good for the environment and help our local community," said Treehenge CEO John Mundy.

The event at Treehenge will have interactive activities including environment and science exploration, Aboriginal artwork and boomerang throwing, a chance to get your hands dirty helping take care of our trees or just relax and enjoy the beautiful location.

"Participation in Treehenge's National Tree Day event is set to be fun for everyone while also helping us address important environmental issues like the loss of habitat for native wildlife and erosion," Mr Mundy said. "It's also good for individual and community health.

"Due to the season tree planting activities will be at a minimum but there's still lots to do to help our trees grow big and strong. We have a delicious lunch organised and drinks will be available on the day. The weather forecast looks great - but remember to bring your coat, hat, good shoes and sunscreen."

These local activities will be part of a milestone event, as Planet Ark and sponsor Toyota Australia prepare to plant the 20-millionth seedling since the event began in 1996.

National Tree Day is Australia's largest tree-planting and nature care event.
