Netball battle looms

WARWICK will field a strong open netball team at the Feeling Good Carnival at Bundaberg on July 24-25.

Formerly known as the country carnival, the event is sponsored this year by Queensland Health, hence the change of name.

The team bound for Bundaberg plays as Warwick 2 in each round of the Darling Downs Inter-district League.

The inter-district round in Toowoomba on July 18 will be the final preparation for the open team before the state carnival.

Warwick Netball Association secretary Linda Bunch said Warwick did not compete in the country carnival last year.

“We finished midfield in the 2008 carnival at Townsville,” Bunch said.

New Warwick players for the 2010 state carnival are shooter Yasmin O’Driscoll, defender Jodie Woodward and centre court pair Angela Mann and Shari Hirning.

Carnival regulars in the 2010 team are shooters Donna Carey and Bunch, centre court players Lisa Fitzgerald and Mandy Creed and defenders Susan Hounslow and Helena Fraser.

Warwick is one of eight teams in division 3 at Bundaberg and will play seven games in the round robin competition.

There are no finals, so one loss could cost any team a chance to win the title.

Warwick will play Beaudesert, Gladstone 1, Gympie, Maryborough, Nanango, Shailer Park and Underwood Park at Bundaberg.

All of the Warwick open players are involved with senior fixtures on Monday and Tuesday nights at WIRAC.
