Netballers off to Challenge Cup in Brisbane

NINE Warwick netballers will be involved in the Challenge Cup when it begins in Graceville, Brisbane, today.

The group of under-12s will play against teams from Brisbane and coastal regions.

Coach Kerri Shooter said the tournament was all about the players testing themselves.

"The Challenge Cup will give these girls the experience of playing at a higher level," Shooter said. "It is a bit more localised than a state carnival, but it's a good opportunity for the girls to see how the other teams play and pick up a couple of things.

"This tournament doesn't lead to anywhere, but from next year onward they can be picked for state teams, so it is a great experience ahead of next year."

Shooter said the girls could not contain their excitement ahead of the carnival.

"This is the first carnival they've been to," she said.

"They're very excited; even just about the prospect of sleeping away and having a team bonding dinner at Sizzler's at Toowong."

The Warwick and District side will play a series of grading matches today before the carnival begins. Their first match begins at 10am.
