New additions buoy Warwick Boxing Club
BOXING: If change is as good as a holiday, the Warwick Boxing Club has packed its bags and is ready to fly.
The addition of new gear, including focus mitts, has helped to raise enthusiasm at the club's headquarters on Albert St, as the club moves forward into 2018.
"A grant from the Council has been used to purchase 12 new bags, plus extra gear,” Warwick Boxing Club president Mick Gaffney said.
"Any improvements like that help the club and gives everybody a lift.
"They're better for the club, because the bags come in all shapes and sizes, and allows boxers or those taking classes to get the most out of their sessions.”
Gaffney said
"People notice the difference with improvements,” he said.
"We want to keep our equipment upgraded, and keep improving our facilities.
"When the extension occurs, the ring will be moved to the back, and that will open up more space on the floor for the fitness side of things.
"We're hoping to have the floor tiled with rubber mats after Christmas as well.”
With news of the Cameroon Commonwealth Games team training in Warwick, Gaffney said the club is excited to host the African nation.
"We have a number of young boxers at the club, and being around experienced competitors will certainly give them a leg up,” he said.
"We're putting extensions on the back of the building early next year, so we are hoping they will be done by the time they arrive.”
