New blood for Wildcats ahead of big USQ clash
BASKETBALL: Warwick Wildcats will have a big advantage in their top-of- the-table Big Q clash with the USQ Dragons, with the addition of Kade Hobman.
Wildcats coach Jeff Clark said the inclusion of Hobman would help to give his side an extra presence on the inside.
"He's played for SBL level for Logan, who are one of the top teams in the competition," he said.
"Kade is 6'6, solid and athletic. We're hoping to increase the depth of our bigs, run the floor and keep the up-tempo game out guards are running.
"We're happy with our guard rotation, we've just needed an extra big for extra size against teams that like to slow the game down."
Both Warwick and USQ are unbeaten in A grade.
USQ is stacked with top-line talent, including Toowoomba Mountaineers representatives Paul Aleer, Joe McConnell and Mitch Davis.
Aleer is a player the Wildcats need to pay attention to, with the 213cm giant going to prove a handful in the paint.
Clark said while Aleer was a talent, he was confident his team could minimise his impact.
"If he gets in the keyway, nobody will stop him," he said.
"We're hoping to box out their bigs, stop them getting into the paint and forcing them to hit shots from the outside.
"If they hit those shots to beat us, so be it."
"We've seen them play but it's always hard to tell until you match up against them on the court. We have good depth, and, if we play the full 40 minutes, we can outlast them."
All games to be played at Harristown today.
