New booze deal signed at turf club
ASIDE from the hats and the horses, it's a glass of bubbly or cold stubby of beer that lifts the spirits of punters at the Warwick Cup.
This year, the alcohol served at Allman Park will take on a number of different labels, thanks to a new deal signed between the Turf Club and Lion Nathan.
Turf Club president Jim Costello said Lion Nathan would provide its alcohol range - which boasts brands such as XXXX, Hahn, Tooheys, Heineken and Bacardi - for the next three years.
"We've been running with Carlton (alcohol) for years, but it wasn't a fixed agreement, it was more a gentleman's agreement," he said.
"We got an offer from Lion Nathan and, based on feedback from a few people who said they'd like XXXX or Tooheys, we thought we'd sign ourselves up."
The club has signed a three- year contract, with the option of extending it afterwards if it is well received.
Already, signs of a new agreement/face at Allman Park, with large yellow XXXX signs lining the race track and various other places.
"We think it's a fairly good mix of beers, mixed spirits and wine," Mr Costello said.
"Of course there's a fair bit of champagne or sparkling wine sold that day too."
The wine list will include the likes of Lindauer Brut sparkling wine, Stonier Chardonnay, St Hallett Poachers White, Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc, St Hallet Gamekeepers Red and Coriole Estate Shiraz.
Tickets for the marquee must be purchased by this weekend. They cost $35 per person and $75 for catered lunch provided by the Warwick Polocrosse Club.
General admission of $20 a person is available on the day at the gate. The Warwick Cup is held Saturday, October 8.
