New business to get town pumping

UNITED Petroleum service station will offer a fresh face for Warwick after it undergoes a massive revamp in coming months.

Development proposals for a completely new service station on the corner of corner of Wallace and Cleary St in Warwick have gaining approval from the Southern Downs Regional Council.

Service station manager and sole trader Sandeep Goud Janagam said the much-needed redevelopment will replace a very outdated facility.

"To be frank, this is very good for me because I am going to get a new building because this is a very old one,” he said.

The new service station will be able to accommodate more customers with five petrol bowsers, a shop and a large kitchen and dining area.

"It will create more business,” Mr Janagam said.

"It may be six months gap but it will be very good for me.”

Mr Janagam said there would be a separate driveway and entry point for trucks and large commercial vehicles.

"It's going to be much bigger than the one we have here now and we will be able to have more customers,” he said.

Construction dates are yet to be confirmed, but Mr Janagam expects work to begin in the next six months.

United petroleum will close temporarily while the new service station is being built.

Mr Janagam said it is expected to take about six months from the beginning of construction to the time when the new service station opens its doors.

"There has been a lot of developments going on in Aratula, so it will be great to have another facility encouraging people to stop in the Southern Downs,” she said.

Located in a high-traffic area, the facility promises to present a good face for people driving into Warwick.

"Right now it is the first service station you come to when you drive into the Warwick urban area from Stanthorpe, so to see that upgraded will be great encouragement for travellers to stop,” Cr Dobie said.

Mr Janagam, who has been managing Warwick United Petroleum for six months said there was a large base of local clientele who would also be excited about the redevelopments.

"They know the burgers and sandwiches are hot food are very fresh... many people are regular to me.”

Mr Janagam may be able to cater to more customers, but he said the excellent service would stay the same.
