New centre a service boost

ONE of Southern Downs Regional Council's goals was to improve customer service, and thanks to their new community contact centre, that is exactly what they are able to do.

The centre, which is located behind the reception desk at the Warwick council office, went live on July 1 - along with council's new number 1300MYSDRC.

Director of Business and Community Services David Tuxford said 17 staff worked at the new centre.

"They were found through internal recruitments which means they have a lot of knowledge which they have brought across into the area," he said.

"The aim is for them to be able to answer 75% of calls to the centre."

The centre takes on average 144 requests a day, and since opening only three requests have not been answered in their designated time frame.

Southern Downs Mayor Peter Blundell said the centre, located behind the reception desk at the Warwick council office, was an important step to improving the way phone calls and questions were dealt with.

Plans are also under way for a community contact centre in Stanthorpe.
