New coach for Wattles A-grade side

THE Wattles Warriors have appointed premiership winning Queensland Cup coach Gary Lawrence as their new A-grade rugby league coach.

He succeeds Luke Duggan who did not re-apply for the role so he could spend more time with his young family.

Wattles won the past two Toowoomba Rugby League A-grade premierships under Luke Duggan and have made the past three grand finals.

Lawrence coached Toowoomba Clydesdales to a Queensland Cup win in 1996 and was the coach of the Queensland Residents in 1997.

His most recent TRL coaching was two years at the helm of the Warwick Cowboys when the A-grade team made the top-five each season.

Lawrence will start the season without regular half and past TRL Player of the Year Matt Duggan who will start light training with the club next month before having a knee operation.

Terry Bermingham is the Wattles reserve-grade coach and Mick Ryan will be at the helm of the under-18 side in the 2016 season.
